Notification when lock fails to extend

I am considering using this library, but I don't see something that I would consider to be a core functionality: the ability to be notified when a lock fails to extend, and is lost. I do see that there was a pull request some time back for this implemented through events, but I am curious as to why such functionality doesn't exist.
