[Request] Expanding the mod to versions beyond 1.7.10

Open NovaViper opened this issue 8 years ago • 18 comments

Hey, I saw from this issue where you stated that you were only going to make the mod available to only 1.7.10.. my question is why cut it to only 1.7.10? Doing that cuts out many people who are using 1.8+ (including myself). Even advanced mods like Dr.Zhark's Mo Creatures are at least on 1.10.2, giving a possible future for 1.11.2 updates. I understand updating mods takes a very long time (I used to develop a mod myself, but I got extremely busy with school so I don't have free time anymore), but at least make an effort on going for versions beyond 1.7.10. You could even skip some versions and go straight to 1.11.2 if you need to. Indeed, I did try updating my mod to major updates (I had an especially hard time with 1.8 since it changed numerous components with block positioning), so I do understand why you might want to stick to 1.7.10. However, realistically (and practically), it would make more sense to move on to 1.8 and beyond as it would allow more people to get their hands on the mod without having to clone worlds just to run one mod on a different Minecraft version, while at the same time sacrificing several other mods that only supports versions 1.8 and beyond. Sorry for this really long sort of 'speech', but I just wanted to clarify my reasoning on suggesting this.

Sorry,

My biggest reasons are, I'm not good at java development, only got into a little cause I personally needed the bugs in the backpack mod to be fixed, then I thought the Mc community might need it so I shared the source and made it open source and compile jar so everyone can take the fixes instead of me being greedy. personally I don't know how to update the mod myself again I'm not good at java development because i only did a little bit to get fixes for myself and MC community. Hope you understand.

It's fine, trust me, I know the feeling. The main reason why I stopped developing mods was mainly because I didn't know Java that well and because of school, I couldn't look at the code, thus leading to where I couldn't remember what I changed and what the code meant. I can only imagine how much work it would take to basically revive the mod to the latest versions.

Speaking of developing.. I really know how you feel because I'm working on an android app and already I've hit a couple of bumps because of my limited knowledge on Java. Also, if you want to learn more about Java, you should check out the website, SoloLearn. I'm using that to help me with getting a foundation with Java so I can finish up this app I'm working on.

I'm still wanting to rewrite this mod for 1.10.2, I've had it in the back of my mind. I asked awhile back, but I've been waiting for you to correct the bugs in 1.7.10. Do I still have the permission?

Yes please go right ahead and update it yourself <3

but please keep mind that everyone in the MC community want this backpack since @Darkona is busy

I'll leave it to you then. Ask if you need help.

I have got the mod compiling under 1.10.2 now, but i still need to do the rendering work, if anyone wants to help with that it would be much appreciated.

Could I get a time estimate for the release of the mod for minecraft version 1.12? Sorry for my writing but I'm Italian XD I hope understand! I love Adventure Backpack!

there is no eta for 1.12 as there would be a huge amount of work for that. in still working on 1.10.2 and expect it to be some weeks at best before thats ready for release

ThePhilderbeast avatar Apr 10 '17 14:04 ThePhilderbeast

then in a few days there is a 1.10.2 adventure backpack?

Francy02 avatar Apr 10 '17 15:04 Francy02

Francy, I'm not going to set any hard deadline on this as I simply have no way of judging what is left to do on it, it will be released as soon as its ready though.

when it comes out you would send me on [email protected] pls??

Francy02 avatar Apr 12 '17 06:04 Francy02

Why not just go to his github and click on "Watch" it can send emails when he works on it instead of bugging him, we only have select few devs that are keeping this bug alive just don't bug them

so just an update on this, I'm currently stuck with the backpacks rendering as I don't have the original models, there are some other bugs that need fixing as well but the models is what I'm working on at the moment.

I'm currently working out the best way to replace these models noting that we have limited resources to help rework them

I'm just here looking to see if anyone has had an issue, but you might have luck emailing him at the email address in this issue post https://github.com/runescapejon/AdventureBackpack2/issues/85

Hi, I'm back here after 4 years to see if someone has recently updated the mod to a newer version of Minecraft; I must admit that rereading these messages I got a lot of nostalgia ahahah
