Fix minor typos / grammar in README.md

Minor README updates that threw me off while reading.

The README.md file is generated from a template, so these changes will need to be made there as well. The template file is misc/README.md.erb.

Thanks @adam12. I've updated mis/README.md.erb and run rake as well as checked the erb template generation manually to regenerate to make sure I haven't missed anything.
