GSM-specific?

Hi, I can't get any apps to get a location from this NLP provder (without GPS enabled).

Here's what I did:

  1. Installed "µg UnifiedNlp (for GAPPS-free devices)" from F-Droid
  2. Installed "GSMLocationNlpBackend" from F-Droid
  3. Went to the "µg UnifiedNlp" app, clicked "Configure location backends", checked "GSMNetworkLocationProvider"
  4. Enable "Location" in settiings, click "Mode" and select "Battery saving"

I can never get a location this way in OSMAnd+ (or other apps). If I enable GPS, they get a location.

Noob Question: Is this GSM only? Does it work over CDMA? If not, why not? My understanding is that OpenCellID stores both..

My device info:

  • Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-I545, rooted
  • Android 4.4.4 on PAC ROM without GAPPS

I've tested this in major cities, including New York, where there shouldn't be issues with data availability.

PS This isn't really a bug report, but I couldn't find a better place to ask questions. Where is the appropriate forum?

Thanks!
