Hokuyo UST-10LX keeps blinking when powered.

I powered the Hokuyo UST-10LX through a 12V Power Supply and connected it to my laptop. The sensor is blinking continuously, which the specsheet says means the sensor is malfunctioning. If I run rosrun urg_node urg_node _ip_address:=192.168.0.10 I get the [WARN] could not grab single echo scan.
