what happens
I see 2 lines of terminal output and my system locks up and nothing else.
A debug build may yield more useful logs. For that you just need to build river with zig build without specifying a release type and launch the executable located at ./zig-out/bin/river.
I have narrowed it down to -Dxwayland this just doesn't work on my system for what ever reason and seeing as the aur version does it by default it just broke. Normal build works perfectly.
As for the output the best I can do now is a output from starting it from a X session "if I try it from the TTY it locks up my system and I can't have that happening right now"

I have narrowed it down to
-Dxwaylandthis just doesn't work on my system for what ever reason and seeing as the aur version does it by default it just broke. Normal build works perfectly.

Getting an actual stack trace would be helpful. Since it sounds like are using a distro with systemd you can likely use coredumpctl gdb to open the coredump in gdb and then run bt full to get a stack trace which I'd love to take a look at.
Alternatively reproducing the crash running under gdb in an X session or different wayland session would work as well.
I was missing the xorg-x11-server-Xwayland dependency
Well something fixed it self no idea what it is but it works again all I can tell you it had something to do with xwayland
