Adding pause or break between sentences or paragraphs

Hello, Is there any way to add pauses between sentences? Do I need SSML scripts for this feature?

In the next version of Piper, it will be possible to use the break tag.

I'm struggling with this problem of no way to pause. Pausing between sentences doesn't help, I need it to pause on parenthesis because without doing so it all runs together and sounds really unnatural. Any kind of character that could create a pause would be helpful. Also, periods followed by a space and a capital letter cause their own problems when reading names like "James T. Kirk"... it will pause after the T.

This worked perfectly for me

@synesthesiam Is there a programmatic way I can add pauses between words or sentences? A full-stop doesn't seem to work. I could not find how to implement '--sentence-silence 1' in inference code. Could you please tell how do you plan to implement the logic for ? Thanks a lot.

same here. i have piper installed as an add-on for home assistant OS and i've been able to adjust a few things in that config to change the "length_scale" of the voice and the "noise_w", but cannot figure out how to adjust the sentence-silence as you've described above.
