I keep getting crashlytics=null with

Android Studio 3.5 Build #AI-191.8026.42.35.5791312, built on August 8, 2019 JRE: 1.8.0_202-release-1483-b03 amd64 JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o Windows 10 10.0

Is there a known version of Android Studio this builds with ?

Did you try to use open* build variants? You can easily pick build variant with special Android Studio panel that located at left edge of window. As mentioned in README, keys for another build variants are not represented in this public repo.
