How does this feature work on Reddit?

Subscriptions are managed through an account instead of cookies. Subscriptions can then be synced across devices, and they also survive clearing browser data.

That is not a problem because I can sign back in with my password of the account.

set the password to be the cookie restore link lol

i guess it would have to be occasionally updated though...
