Game won't launch

Open inmento opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

I played this game last in december 2020, I was using the console content mod and levithans tears, it worked fine. The game wouldn't launch yesterday so I deleted everything in the alba data folder and had steam verify the files. After it all redownloaded the game still wouldn't launch. FF13Fix.log Any idea on how I can fix this??

This game doesn't get along very well with Data Execution Prevention. In my case, I had to completely disable it to get the game to launch. If you're okay with the risk, open up a command prompt as administrator, and type "bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff" without the quotation marks. Restart your computer after.

I used the FF XIII-2 Steam Mod Guide, which tells you to set the FF XIII-2 Launcher on Windows 8 compatibility to prevent a buzzing sound when using surround speakers. For me, removing the compatibility setting enabled the game to start again (I am not having the surround issue though).

I did mention in the guide to use an separate version of this fix only if you hear the buzzing noise. anyways I have updated the guide now to make it a bit more clearer.

if you did not have this issue then don't change the compatibility of the launcher.
