How to prevent apt from undoing a rpi-update?

From https://github.com/RPi-Distro/repo/issues/365#issue-2106609136 and https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/5753#issuecomment-1877227229 seems that rpi-update currently doesn't prevent apt from undoing its change.

can a guide be posted or can such prevention be added to rpi-update
