To illustrate the problem on a freshly installed Mint Cinnamon 22.1. Same issue on Arch linux with GNOME DE.
All my keyboard layouts are without the deadkey option. I'll reinstall the Mint VM with this option to see, whether that makes a difference.

I did a `git bisect`. The behavior changed with `941b4e36529a5d9dc62aa81e2ebd3e353d7827ea`, which is `Feature: JavaFX 24 (#3882)`.
