An invaluable feature would be a becon mode. A simple timer would do, just select a frequency (1 min, 3 min, etc.) and the app would transmit to update your position on the map. An advanced feature would be a variation of a smart becon. It would automatically send a signal if you move say 20m while walking (speeds below 5mph) or everytime you take a turn at speeds over 5mph, and every 5 miles or so in a straight line.
