Request: Customize UI text and Icon with Registry/GPO overrides.

As part of integrating MMA into the corporate/organizational culture of places where it's deployed, have you considered allowing the text and icon in MMA to be customized in the Registry/GPO settings? I know it could be a bit of a sprawl if you support keys for the localizations as well.

Text Customization Keys:

  • UI-Text-Require Authentication Window
  • UI-Text-Title Bar
  • UI-Text-Grant Admin Rights Button
  • UI-Text-Grant Admin Rights Button
  • UI-Text-Notifcation Title
  • UI-Text-Notifcation Title
  • UI-Text-Notifcation Admin Rights Enabled
  • UI-Text-Notifcation Admin Rights Disabled
  • UI-Text-Reason Dialog Title
  • UI-Text-Reason Dialog

Icon Key (I'm not sure how you're handling the program icon(s). If it's a single multi resolution .ico file, then just one key):

  • UI-Icon-Application
  • UI-Icon-SysTray

To be overly frank, I can't imagine ever doing this. Customizing the text, regardless of the language, would be a simple task for any C# developer.

No reason not to be frank! I totally understand that it’s a lift and of course, it’s just a request. But, bear with me here. There is a place for it the feature.

One of the primary audiences for MMA is higher ed. I can only speak to my own experience in a highly distributed/decentralized IT support at a state university. Yes, it’s simple for someone with a bit of experience to fork the repo, search and replace the text in the code and compile the custom version. I won’t lie, at that university the number of folks both capable and motivated enough to do so would be vanishingly small. Additionally, if it were to get done, I can almost guarantee that no updates would be made to the build until something drastic/catastrophic broke. At which point, whoever built it would be gone.

Please don’t think I’m saying that the problems of any underfunded, less-than-perfectly-managed institution are yours to handle. I know that such a scenario, is unfortunately very common in many edu environments, not to mention most SMB’s. With customization as a feature, MMA would be that much more accessible to the folks that need it the most, those with painfully limited IT resources.

All that said, thanks for all the work and time considering the request.

I do get what you're saying and understood what you were trying to make possible. For me, it's a question of what I spend my time on. Some of the work is done on company time, if it's a feature we would use, but the majority of the work is done in my personal time. Which, coincidentally, is why releases are so slow in coming.

Also, remember (or hear it here for the first time) that Make Me Admin came out of higher ed.

Hi, I would like to install MakeMeAdmin with icon to systray for all users to be able just click on it and add the rights. Is there some way how to do it without third-party SW ?

@Luckyson666 there's nothing in Make Me Admin to do that natively, no
