flickering on safari 5.1.9 Mac OSX 10.6.8

I have a UL with 15 LI containing the img in a slider showing about 7 or 8 at a time. I used the greyscale effect on all img and when I hover an image it shows in color fine but all the visible images to the right of the hover one flicker.

It works great on newer versions of Safari just the one.
