Cannot succesfully import exported database into Tubular - latest version

Steps to reproduce the bug
- Import from NewPipe export.
- No playlists, no subscriptions, no history imported. Settings are imported.
Older versions may also be affected no one has enough time to check. Newer versions are definitely affected. Latest is v0.27

I won't be responding to further questions because I had to waste time confirming with the latest version when the version number alone was evidence enough to condemn the usage of this entire series of releases. Since this code can't be built by most, it's not really FOSS or FLOSS, whatever you prefer to use. It is source available or shareware or freeware, whatever you want to call it.
Also I patched it to correctly import a database, it was easy but I didn't like the entire app so I removed it from the Android VM I was using for testing.
Expected behavior
It just works TM.

It doesn't work but it does let you know it doesn't work.

Additional information
Question about device model is - Irrelevant as all devices are affected as the bug is in the Tubular code. No where else.
Not sure about playlists and settings, but if you just want your channel subscriptions:
In NewPipe:
- Go into the "Subscriptions" screen in NewPipe
- Tap the vertical three-dots, then "Export to" then "File"
- Save the file to a folder on your device
Then, in Tubular:
- Go into the "Subscriptions" screen
- Tap the vertical three-dots, then "Import from" then "File"
- Pick the file you saved a moment ago from NewPipe
That works fine for me: all channels from NewPipe successfully came into Tubular
Obviously that's not all the data you want -- but it offers a workaround to at-least transfer your channels over
