PMP 2.x (OSX) drops full screen when reconnecting via HDMI receiver

Open esmith818 opened this issue 8 years ago • 9 comments

When PMP 2.0 first became available, I upgraded only to find that every time I switched to the Mac Mini running PMP via my Onkyo receiver, the app would be reduced in size. This would require me to go into settings and toggle the Full Screen setting (checked) off and on again. The app resets to the smaller screen (see embedded image below) every time I switch to Plex on the receiver. This issue sounds similar to #609 except the screen remains centered and in the "full screen" format (albeit at a reduced size).

This behavior does not happen on PMP 1.3.11 which I switched back to after first trying our the preview release. But I recently tried 2.1.1 thinking this issue may have been resolved and it is not. While I like the new UI, I get tired of "fixing" the full screen setting every time I want to watch something so I am currently back on 1.3.11.

Note that if I open a VNC connection to the Mac Mini while receiver is off, PMP is still full screen. It would appear the resizing happens when the HDMI connection is made between receiver and Mac.

@esmith818 : this is a pretty odd issue, as i don't see any changes in that area in PMP v2. I will need to make a specific setup to test this, please bare with me. Just in case, could you confirm it wasn't fixed with recent releases ? becuase i don't see what could have introduced this.

Here is a PlexMediaPlayer log file. I erased all the files I had, and then started it up so you have one clean example of it happening. PlexMediaPlayer.log

@Zoratt : i tried reproducing that issue with a macmini (latest HS update) and public build from plex.tv.

Hooked it up to a Denon AVR1910 AVR and a TV. Tried :

  • Switching sources on AVR
  • Powering off AVR
  • Powering off AVR & TV

All those test scenarios went well, there was no wierd size window when resuming.

@Zoratt @esmith818 : Do you guys confirm this is still a valid issue ?

Still an issue for me, but I am inclined to think it is related to the Onkyo hardware settings rather than the Plex software. In either case, I have switched to using the Roku client for my media player and using the MacMini as a server only.

@LongChair Sorry it took me a few days. I am running the most recently updated Windows 10 on an intel NUC I have that hooked up to a Yamaha RX-A1020. I am using a Sony VPL-HW50ES Projector.

In my example, you don't even need to switch sources.

I turn on the Projector Then I turn on the Receiver The Computer is always left on.

This shows up:

If I switch sources, in a matter of minutes, then it retains full screen.

If I hit the full screen button again, and then I shut off the receiver, wait 5 minutes, then turn it back on. It has then gone back to the prior state shown in the picture.

@LongChair Also, I just did the same thing with a Hackintosh, and it doesn't do this using the same steps, receiver, and projector. To me this points to something in Windows vs MacOS. Also, I have seen this on different TV's and Receivers with Windows 10.

Just wanted tot let you know I have the exact same issue as zorrat shows in the photo. 2/3s of the screen fill after turning the receiver back on.

setup: Windows 10 pc with Intel graphics (core i3 3225) thuis is running 2 accounts, 1 account runs Plex media server and I user remote desktop tot control it. The other account used to run openPHT but last week I changed tot PMP as openPHT isnt updated anymore. OpenPHT did nog have this issue! Im using a Sony STR-DN1080 receiver and a fairly old Sony KDL40 NX 710 tv Im thinking maybe the old tv could be the reason I have this issue but a lot of others don't. But stille, doesn't happen with Netflix in Chrome or with openPHT.

Its the loss of signal that jumps the resolution. Plex Just doesn't jump back when the amp comes back online like openPHT did.

Hope that helps. Let me know if I van help with any testing.

Still happening to me. It isn't the hardware as other programs don't have the issue, only Plex.
