[Android] Homepage Tab starts to load, then gives error: service maybe unavailable.

🐞 Bug Report: Home Feed Fails to Load After Login (other tabs are fine)

Summary

After logging into my Pixelfed instance, the home timeline initially loads one post, then displays a loading spinner. After a few seconds, the app switches to a white screen with the message:

Oops!
The service may be temporarily unavailable.
If the problem persists, please contact support.

This behavior occurs consistently and prevents the home feed from loading.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open the Pixelfed Android app (from the Google Play Store).
2. Log in to a custom instance
3. Tap on the Home tab.
4. Observe: one post appears briefly, followed by a loading spinner, then an error message appears.

Expected Behavior

The home timeline should load normally and display all available posts from followed accounts.

Actual Behavior

After a brief partial load, the app displays the “Oops! The service may be temporarily unavailable” screen and stops responding until manually refreshed.

• Device: Samsung Galaxy A51 5G
• OS Version: Android 13

Additional Notes

• The issue does not occur when using the PixelDroid app with the same account and instance, suggesting the problem is specific to the Pixelfed Android app.
• Network connectivity is stable.
• The issue persists after clearing cache and reinstalling the app.
