[FEATURE] Low-key colors in dark mode

Open rkirner opened this issue 8 months ago • 8 comments

Adjustment of colors in dark mode.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

QOwnNotes supports dark mode, which is supposed to be friendly on the eyes in low-light environments. Currently the list panels use a very bright orange in dark mode to indicate selection. This is very distracting when writing in low light conditions.

Describe the solution you'd like

The user elements should not cause much attention in dark mode. A color just with the same tone but a bit less dark than the background would be already good enough to indicate a selection without causing much attention.

Describe alternatives you've considered

I used the script that allows to adjust the colors of all the GUI elements. While this works, it makes switching between normal and dark mode a complicated task.

You could apply your changes only in dark-mode by reading the application setting darkMode with https://www.qownnotes.org/scripting/methods-and-objects.html#loading-application-settings-variables.

Btw. https://github.com/qownnotes/scripts/blob/master/black-mode/black-mode.qml also has some darker styles.

I was not referring to the editor schemas. Just to the other gui elements, which are by default ok in dark mode. Just the default bright orange background of the currently selected element in a list is not very friendly on the eyes in low-light environments.

You can override the styles of UI elements too...

The orange background of selected items is a special behaviour when in dark mode. In normal mode it just appears grey. It there a way to change the gui element colors specifically for dark mode?

(I just thought changing the default bright orange from dark mode into something more eye friendly would be simple change that works for all. If that is not possible, I don't mind too much, as I just would not switch to dark mode when in low-light environments).

Thanks, the "black-mode" script is indeed very dark. It is good for those working persistently in black mode. It is not really for those, who work mainly in normal mode but occasionally in dark mode, as it also needs separate (de)activation.

That's where what I wrote in https://github.com/pbek/QOwnNotes/issues/3273#issuecomment-2866154000 comes in.
