Add more sync types: Upload only etc

I'm missing some sync types for the Desktop client.

  • "Mirror" or "Backup". This means that changes are only applied to owncloud, not the local folder
  • "Upload only". Here i can make a local folder and any files in there will be uploaded to owncloud. Any files i delete from this folder will not be deleted from owncloud

Hm, today the client is by purpose bi-directional and always that way. Mostly because we think users will be confused otherwise.

If we do single folder connections that could be an option. So Upload only I understand - somewhow it sounds the folder should be named that way, but I guess you would want it for all kinds of folders in the tree.

The Mirror or Backup one I have to admit I don't get yet. Can you elaborate? If I put a file there as a user, what happens?

I'm backing up my file server to a owncloud storage provider. Because its a backup i do not want anything syncing back to my server. If something did change in owncloud then thats a backup error and needs to be overwritten with the, probably older, file from my server

My current setup works like this: Server -> NAS (SMB) NAS (SMB) -> owncloud (Desktop client running on the server)

Currently the "Server -> NAS" will correct any erroneous data flowing back from owncloud towards the NAS. But it would be more efficient if i could direct the own Desktop client directly to the local folder on the server that needs to be backed up

Below the "Exchange" is where i exchange files with other people. So that should be bi-directional "StackUpload" is only for uploading files so "Upload only" "MirrorD" is a copy of my entire D: drive on the server (Server -> NAS (SMB)) getting backed up to owncloud. If i could change this to my local folder it would have been "D:" instead of the \\sl-nas-ts439\ ...etc. "Youtube" some Youtube movies i made getting backed up to owncloud

Given that 99% of the time I only work with one client and the amount of confusion between server and client in the past (where the server decided to re-download files I deleted on the client, or decided that its file version was never despite the opposite being true), I'm also favoring a mirror/backup configuration that never syncs files back to the client unless I change that setting.

It would be nice to have "upload only" also for mobile devices.

"Upload only". Here i can make a local folder and any files in there will be uploaded to owncloud. Any files i delete from this folder will not be deleted from owncloud

This can be achieved using the new 2.5 "virtual file" feature. 2.5 daily builds: https://download.owncloud.com/desktop/daily/ (enabling experimental options: https://doc.owncloud.org/desktop/2.5/advancedusage.html )
