In the CJUC DB of 166K+ media items, I estimate between 20% and 30% media have never been played once. Would be helpful to narrow down material hidden in the archive and to create dynamic sections playing material that has never been played
This dovetails nicely into tracking play counts for songs, which is a feature I also want implemented. "Random" track picking is OK but not great -- what you're seeing with some play counts at zero is exactly what happens, at least in the short or medium term (caveat: other reasons for playcounts being at zero, too, obvi), and clustering of some songs that play more often. At least, I presume this is what happens currently when tracks are picked at random to play during a show. A version of stratified random sampling should work better?
