Forced to use bad mirrors for Switzerland
Hello, I have the problem that openSuse always connects me to (currently?) very bad mirrors. I have a Swiss IP and thus get Swiss mirrors, ok so far... BUT those mirrors are practically not usable.
- pkg.adfinis.com Has very slow download speeds (~100kb/s)
- mirror.hostsuisse.com Doesn't seem to actually host any files for openSuse besides an empty directory.
opensusemirror.lihaso.com Would be the only one that seems decent, but I'm not getting that.
Thank you for raising the issue. I am interested to fix such problem, but I need more info to identify root cause. According to data in DB mirror.hostsuisse.com is indeed in a bad shape and no requests should be redirected there at all, for a long time. So if you have some recent zypper logs or example output from curl demonstrating the issue - please forward.
Regarding adfinis vs lihaso: my blind guess suggests that one of the reasons might happen:
- lihaso doesn't support ipv6 and you communicate to download.opensuse.org over ipv6, which suggest that the redirector should prefer ipv6 - compatible mirror (because we have some clients that don't support ipv4 and redirecting them to ipv4-only mirror is not a good solution)
- or -
- adfinis is just closer to you geographically. If you look at the 'mirror map' e.g. by pressing 'Toggle map' at the bottom of .mirrorlist of an example package or e.g. at https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.5/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.5-NET-x86_64-Build491.1-Media.iso.mirrorlist (and zoom in to Switzerland): which mirror is geographically the closest? (And is mirror.hostsuisse.com present in the list at all?)
Depending on your answer I will try to come with more ideas.
