Adding media to playing playlist

I am working on an application that requires the playlist to be updated on the fly. How can this be achieved using this libary? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28440708/python-vlc-binding-playing-a-playlist

This StackOverflow example shows how a playlist can be created and played but I can't find any functions in that show how a playlist can be updated while its playing. Please is this possible? If not can you suggest any other approaches or solutions to this problem?
