Allow nodes to be tagged with user data

Great project, and really excited about your NYC efforts! Thanks for all your work

Context

A couple statements as background:

Legend :mag: Fact  Feeling

:mag: Nodes setup and maintenance involves at least one person. :mag: Nodes setup and maintenance often involves a whole group of people. :mag: Early node numbers indicate early contribution and belief in project. I feel that contributors like their work to be recognized somehow, even in small ways. I feel that the current map doesn't allow the work of contributors to be surfaced. I feel that people like the brag about their [early] contributions in positive ways. I feel that project contributors appreciate ways to demonstrate cred.

Challenge

Nodes in the map are quite impersonal and asocial.

Suggested Solution

In light of the above, I would suggest that nodes should have the ability to attach optional identity information that shows up on map.

Possible implementation:

  • add column in node spreadsheet for a comma-separated list of usernames
  • add sheet in spreadsheet for users, with a column for an optional "social profile link"
  • render map with a list of contributors as usernames. link username to social profile if a user lookup passes a link.

Curious about feedback! Thanks again for your consideration :)

Thanks! If you have space to think about it and give a go/no-go before you personally have time to do the work itself, then I'd be happy to put together a demo -- it seems that what's needed to do that, is already public. If you have a larger organizers meeting where I should pitch this as a more general (non-technical) decision, happy to make the case in that forum :)
