Command Prompt: NVDA Outputs Beeps for Caps Lock when Pinging a Hostname/IP Address
Tested on Windows 10 1803 X64 with NVDA snapshot alpha-18064,e579eb02
To reproduce:
-
Ensure that the "Beep if typing lowercase letters when caps lock is on" setting is checked in Preferences/Keyboard
-
Open a new Command Prompt window, and type the following:
ping 127.0.0.1
- Enable the Caps Lock, and hit enter to begin pinging
At this point, you'll notice that even though no characters are physically being typed, NVDA outputs beeps. This would be expected if keys were being typed with the Shift key being held at the same time when Caps Lock is enabled - however, at this point no keys are physically being typed by the user on the keyboard.
Do you still get this behavior if you turn on "Use UI Automation to access windows command consoles when available" under NVDA -> settings -> advanced?
I can replicate it in latest beta with that setting off, but not with it on.
Thanks for the suggestion - enabling this setting and then re-testing works as expected in that no beeps are produced.
UIA is the default setting for consoles now, but I guess the issue is still reproducible with NVDA 2024.2 when that setting is set to legancy. right? @XLTechie could you test?
