If you call :

Intent photoPickerIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK);
                    photoPickerIntent.setType("image/*");
                    ((Activity) v.getContext()).startActivityForResult(photoPickerIntent,
                            Constants.PICK_IMAGE);

and use new native google album to pick photo, if the photo is on the web,it still show the photo tumb , and after you chose that photo ,it will get the uri like:content://com.google.android.apps.photos.content/0/https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/GpvvL8xURZShZV0aY6w30zoDPy8HgfkNoiyxTBMCRoBj=s0-d

but it can not be used for UIL, the photo need to be download .

There is a workaround for this. The real URI is the second part of the content so as in this StackOverflow question, you can parse it manually. It sucks but it works... https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30527045/choosing-photo-using-new-google-photos-app-is-broken
