Prep for Deep Dive Project Advocacy and Promotion: Survey & Community Outreach

Open nomadtechie opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

In preparation for our upcoming deep dive on project advocacy and promotion, we've decided to reach out to existing node community advocates, and collect some data from them through an open ended anonymous survey.

To do this, we will:

  • [ ] send out to a tweet asking the folks to tag and/or identify node community advocates
  • [ ] reach out to them individually and share out the survey
  • [ ] invite them to join us, and/or give input sync or async for the upcoming deep dive session

Below are some survey questions, I've put together, and I would like to iterate on this with the Next 10 team. Once we are happy with this list, I will create the Google Form Survey, and we can start sharing it out:

  • What initially drew you to become involved in advocating for the Node.js community?

  • Can you describe some typical activities you do as a Node.js community advocate?

  • Where are the communities you support and engage with primarily based?

  • What challenges do you face in your role as a community advocate for Node.js?

  • How do you currently engage with other members of the Node.js community?

  • Can you share any success stories or positive experiences you've had while advocating for Node.js?

  • What types of resources are most effective for your community when learning about Node.js?

  • What resources or support do you feel would enhance your effectiveness as a Node.js community advocate?

  • In what ways do you believe the Node.js community could improve its support for advocates like yourself?

  • Are there specific topics or areas within Node.js that you feel deserve more attention or focus from advocates?

  • How do you measure the impact or effectiveness of your advocacy efforts within the Node.js community?

  • What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a Node.js community advocate?

  • What are some of the most misunderstood or confusing concepts for Node.js community members?

We usually have the OpenJS marketing team coordinate and run surveys. Could you check with them?

Also, reaching out with a survey is probably too early, let's wait until we get the deep dive done.

to existing node community advocates

Sorry I keep missing these meetings, they are just early enough I sometimes haven't checked my calendar yet in the morning, but do we have a list of folks in mind? Just like to get an idea what types of folks opinions we are looking to gather here?

@mcollina, the whole purpose of the survey was to get input for the deep dive and its not mean to be a broad based survey like past ones. Instead we would send it directly to people we identify as key node.js advocates (and a selection based on those who self-identify as an advocated in response to the tweet).

So I think this is quite different from other surveys we have sent out and we should handle it much more informally without pulling in limited foundation resources.

@wesleytodd maybe @nomadtechie has a start on the list, but in my mind it is anybody who regularly advocates for Node.js by tweeting, doing blog posts etc on Node.js

@nomadtechie I think we need to get the tweet out this week in or to gather people for the currently scheduled date of Feb 29th.

I think the tweet could be as simple as "Do you tweet, blog or otherwise promote Node.js and its usage on a regular basis? If so the Node.js Next-10 team is holding a deep dive on Feb 29th to talk about how the projects supports and builds advocates. More details are in - https://github.com/nodejs/next-10/issues/247. Hope to see you there"

Then possibly followed up by one that asks people to let you know if they'd be willing to fill out a short survey in advance.
