How to visualize selected vertices, edges etc. without `SurfaceGraphQuantity`?

My question is related to #271.

Previously (e.g., v1.3.0) using SurfaceGraphQuantity it was possible to visualize for example selected vertices or edges.

Is there another way of doing this in the current release (v2.3.0)?

Having the same question. Now I have to create an extra curve for the visualization. However it is annoying when selecting things.
