[Bug]: slow load if /Maps is missing?

Bug description
Takes very long time to load picture icons on map. I think it was due to folder /Maps was not present.
Me and others on our family instance experienced very long load times, when activating picture icons on the map. We just thought that was how is was, given we have a huge collections of pictures (8k). For some other reason I found that I wanted this folder to save gfx tracks, so I created /Maps manually.
Next time I entered maps - I was totally blow away by how fast the map loaded - including picture icons!
Steps to reproduce
Not sure how I ended up in this situation. I can not remember deleting the Maps folder. But then again, this is a very old installation, so I might have removed it at some point as it appeared to be empty. I just checked another users home and it was not there either.
Expected behavior
Warn or ignore if the Maps folder is needed for fast operation.
