I think I‘ve found the issue. File access control. https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/25/admin_manual/file_workflows/access_control.html

It is not related to a particular file but to the access control to that file. I was able to reproduce this behavior. It looks like the new movie player vlc isn’t able to handle the permissions correctly.

The issue is still there, the ticket should be reopened. It feels like a serious regression - @marinofaggiana should we consider reverting to previous video player? @kruthoff I have this problem without access control enabled.

Still have the same issue in Testflight 4.8.7.1. I can playback files if I use the webversion. It happens with all video formats.

NextCloud app uses VLC for video playback and it doesn't support TLS 1.3 properly it seems.

If you are using Nginx make sure your ssl_protocols version specifies TLS 1.2, or simply remove the ssl_protocols line, and make sure that your config is included BEFORE other sites. You can include it manually if you are using the sites-available pattern or name it in such a way it gets loaded first such as 00_nextcloud.conf. Took me a long time to figure this out

Is there anything between Nginx and the client? Maybe Cloudflare? Make sure you set it there too. What is your output of

# nginx -T | grep -i ssl_protocols

@weijiangan, thanks for trying to help But, when I tried this fix a few months ago, I explicitly checked the ssl protocol version on the nextcloud web server address via curl and openssl. There was indeed tls 1.2 there, but that didn't help with video playback in any way. The only thing that worked was downloading the video via the ‘Download full resolution image’ button, after that the video started playing correctly. Actually, even if forcing ssl to 1.2 worked, I wouldn't be willing to put up with lowering the security level of all my web resources for the sake of a crutch for nextcloud. I just wanted to point out in the post above that forcing ssl downgrade doesn't always work and I'd like to see a full-fledged fix on the nextcloud app.

I was able to resolve this issue, and in my case it was not the TLS version. I have migrated nextcloud from s3 to a local m2 ssd. Nextcloud obviously works much worse with s3 than with the file system. All video files are now instantly opened in the app. The error "Your input can't be opened" is no longer reproduced.

Personnaly I still have the same issue "Your input can't be opened : VLC is unable to open the MRL https://xxxxxxxx.xxx.xx/xxx" (I redacted the url).
