[BUG] Font color on Desktop Client Linux in Dark mode

Open pcace opened this issue 1 year ago • 21 comments

Hi there, i am using Nextcloud Desktop-Client 3.12.1 on PopOS 23.10 (GNOME 43 or 44). When using the Client in dark mode:

it seems that the Nextcloud client gets the background color from the GNOME environment, but not the font color, so in dark mode it looks like this:

Bildschirmfoto vom 2023-07-05 10-14-17

...wich is kind of annoying not to be able to read anything here.

it would be awesome to have the font color corrected here.

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have the same issue, but this effect is even more drastic for error messages which are white on yellow, so not readable at all.

nextcloud_bug

Personally I would consider this as a bug, because it is not even visible that there should be an error which one could see if the dark mode is disabled.

I am on Ubuntu Mate 22.04 LTS.

Despite the bug, thanks for the great work :-)

For me part of the font and graphics are not readable at all, independent of display mode (dark or bright). Pictures of my situation in the nextcloud help forum: https://help.nextcloud.com/t/desktop-client-broken-on-gnome/184571/7?u=geraldco

I found a solution for my problem: https://github.com/flathub/com.nextcloud.desktopclient.nextcloud/pull/130#issuecomment-1903355255

Hm, it does not change anything for me. Nextcloud was installed via Flatpak tho. Any Other idea?

...Will this ever be fixed?

If this is what i think it is, it's already fixed:

@LogSpider what version are you using? A fix has been released in 3.14.2.

@camilasan thank you, okay i updated manually. Update function not working correctly. Normally it does.

tadaaaaaaaa

damn it, even if i disable dark mode it is not usable. please just put a setting where you can select and force normal mode and dark mode. somehow he choose the wrong colors. or a color picker where you can choose. something to make this adjustable.

With my win 11 22h2 VM it looks ok, my win10 22h2 looks ugly as above: Image

Same here on windows. It's unsuable. I installed the last usuable version: "Nextcloud-3.13.3-x64.msi".

Where did you get that version? I can find source files, but no binaries.

Edit: Guess I found it: https://download.nextcloud.com/desktop/releases/Windows/

as long as it isn't fixed natively ( HREY; WE TALK ABUT THE WINDOWS CLINET HERE!!) you can start the nextcloud client with a parameter .. "C:\Program Files\Nextcloud\nextcloud.exe" -platform windows:darkmode=1

this switches the qt to disobey the darkmode settings. this a similar fix is used for the wireshark in windows darkmode that looks really horrible there are more switches to the qt stuff -..read here https://doc.qt.io/qt-6/qguiapplication.html#platform-specific-arguments

This is still open??? I mean, come on, the AI features are not that important, since they don't work anyway. - Why does nobody feels obligated to just fix the software? The bug is almost a year old.

This is embarassing.

People recomment nextcloud as a replacement of google... What EVERY open source software developer fails to understand is that the goal is to get to the common user, and no one does that.

At least one person have stopped using nextcloud because of this bug, and it's a shame.

it is solved since the last two versions( ◡‿◡)Am 15.12.2024 15:47 schrieb ironhak @.***>:

Solved with 3.15.3 on windows 10 : Image But there're still the ticked boxes that are almost not visible in parameters : Image

Also... on linux flatpack sometimes I get this glitch... Image

ironhak avatar Jan 08 '25 17:01 ironhak

On Windows 10, this was a severe issue several client versions ago, but it became bearable with updates, although it remained bad.

I just updated from 3.15.3 to 3.16.0 and it became again almost unreadable. Additionally, some parts like the search or the app menu are super bright.

Has the NC client ever been officially tested with dark mode at all?

@Croydon This Windows10-specific issue has already been reported at #7991 and is something we will work on. on Windows 11 the dark mode looks one would expect.

nilsding avatar Mar 13 '25 11:03 nilsding

I have the same problem (menu items not readable (white on white) unless hovering over them) with standard theme on Ubuntu 24.04 (so not dark theme), installed with apt from nextcloud-devs-ubuntu-client-noble.sources (3.16.4 daily). So the flatpak trick mentioned earlier in this tread is not for me.
