Update project dependencies and fix related package/compilation issues

Basically, this refreshes the project with updated dependencies, TS version etc.

List of changes is captured in the commute comments.

I think this is a cool base project and thought I would contribute back. I didn't test all the auth providers but the changes are all pretty consistent with the prior version.
