Inconsistant slurring/portimento in Musesound strings. Out of tune notes.

Open dcorson-ticino-com opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Issue type

Muse Sounds bug

Bug description

  • Using the Musesounds solo strings for a string quartet not possible as the resulting sounds from playing the same notes are very different. Although the v1 and vc sound very well when using the expressive sound flag. This sound flag is not available for v2 and va.
  • Viola solo has extreme portimento which makes it completely unusable.
  • Musesounds v2 Db3 sounds like two instruments playing together out of tune, see example.
  • At dynamic levels mp and below using the sound flag expressive v1 and vc sound like sotto voce, not simply quiet playing. Please see the attached example.

This problem is related to the fact that all (as I understand it) bowed string instruments are played in the legato style. See also #22140.

Closing as this issue has been discussed repeatedly elsewhere. The current portamento behaviour is by design.

Since it is by design, it makes it correct?

And it is by design that the viola and violin 2 have no expressive sound flag so they sound completely different with totally different articulation behaviour ?

It shouldn't be by design. That's a flawed thinking that solo strings should have portamento everywhere, It's unusable, doesn't sound good, doesn't make it correct. At this point, I'd prefer if they introduced "Store" to buy actual VST's which is similar to StaffPad because I'm not using Muse Sounds until this mentality is changed and redesigned "by DESIGN"... I'm very sorry.

@bkunda did you listen to the samples? It's not just the portamento (which I agree is very unnatural and not at all what a real string player would do), but many of the notes do, as the issue said, sound like they're being played by two out-of-tune instruments. It really is the difference between Muse Strings being useful and, well, sadly, not.
