changing colors for terminals with dark background

When I change the color "red" in .moprc to something easier to read on a dark background, the change reverts back to red and so never changes. Is there a way to change the default colors to better suit different terminal backgrounds? I did also try changing the default colors in mop/profile.go, but that never takes affect either.
