  • [x] I have ensured my Modrinth App installation is up to date

What version of the Modrinth App are you using?

0.10.3

What operating systems are you seeing the problem on?

Windows

Describe the bug

All Data Packs should be listed under Data Packs in App Library Instance (screenshot 1) If the Data Pack is downloadable from Modrinth, it is instead listed under Mods in App Library Instance (screenshots 2-3)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create Fresh Instance
  2. Download Data Packs from external source NOT available on Modrinth (such as Vanilla Tweaks) - put in instance/datapacks folder
  3. Download Data Packs from Modrinth (make sure you download the Data Pack version)
  4. Filter by Data Pack only to see external data packs only
  5. Filter by Mod only to see data packs from Modrinth only

Expected behavior

Data Packs should, regardless of source, be found under the Data Packs filter. This should apply regardless of if a Data Pack is from an external source or Modrinth, and whether the Data Pack is only found as a Data Pack or is also found as a Mod.

Additional context

All Data Packs are in datapacks folder, yet the App distinguishes between those that are available downloads from Modrinth and those that are not in incorrectly filtering them

Issue #3073 is similar, however it is distinctly different as that issue is about searching mods and finding data packs in those listings. Additionally, only data packs that also have a mod download appear to be included in that. This is about the filter in the instance for what you have in your instance folders for the app.

I do believe this issue (#4083) and issue #3538 have a similar fix as both issues appear to deal with Data Packs being treated incorrectly (this issue filters them as Mods, 3538 flags them as a "Data Pack" instance, much like Fabric or Forge).

Creators have the option to package datapacks as mods when downloaded on the website. I think this is why the app is recognizing them as such in the filtering options when you upload them manually. Which datapacks did you test with?

datapacks tested are:

  • Vanilla Tweaks (which show up under Data Packs)
  • Several of my own personal datapacks which are uploaded to Modrinth (which show¹ up under Mods and are not packaged as mods; these include Better Vanilla Villager Trades, More Recipes, most More Recipes beta datapacks, Stackable Enchants)
  • A few personal datapacks which are private to my PC (which show up under Data Packs) (see screenshots 1-3 above)

In all cases, they are in the proper datapacks folder on the PC.

Laptop Windows 11 Desktop Windows 10

¹There is now inconsistency in what shows up where for datapacks also uploaded to Modrinth:

  • On my desktop PC, 1.21.10 profile, all but 1 datapack (Better Vanilla Villager Trades) now properly shows up under Data Packs
  • On my laptop PC, 1.21.10 profile, all but 3 datapacks (Better Vanilla Villager Trades, More Recipes, Stackable Enchants) now properly show up under Data Packs
  • On my desktop PC, 1.21.5 profile (copy of profile used for reporting & screenshots), all of the datapacks also on Modrinth (Better Vanilla Villager Trades, More Recipes, More Recipes beta datapacks, Stackable Enchants) still show up under Mods²

²When I update the More Recipes beta datapacks which function beyond 1.21.5, those datapacks disappear to the Data Packs category (the only one which doesn't have this type of update is More Recipes: Duplicate Music Disc)

edit (to keep in one place): I refreshed the profiles and suddenly all the datapacks are listed under Mods again as originally reported
