"Store Layout" and "Restore Layout" menu items not available

Open camslice opened this issue 1 year ago • 21 comments

Hi there, as per the documentation I expect to see "Store Layout" and "Restore Layout" menu items under the "Window" menu. However they do not appear. I have tried uninstalling the plugin, restarting the IDE and reinstalling, but the menu items still do not appear. See screenshot below: IDEA Window Layout Manager Bug

Any other ideas for how to make them appear?

Thanks

Version info:

  • macOS Ventura 13.7 (22H123)
  • IntelliJ IDEA 2024.2.4 RC (Ultimate Edition) Build #IU-242.23726.38, built on October 15, 2024
  • Window Layout Manager ver 1.5.0

The menu options disappeared for me in 1.5.0 as well, I downgraded to 1.4.1 in the meantime.

hi @michaelestermann , i keep updating my IDE in the hope that these menu items will appear but they're still not available :(

your plugin in superior to the built in layout manager, because it stores layouts for each project. this is incredibly useful when working on multiple projects with different contexts and window requirements

i hope you can find some time to fix this issue

Any errors in the bar in the right corner (Exclamation icon), which indicates internal errors of the IDE ? If yes, please submit the stacktrace.

Just installed IntelliJ 2024.2.4 Ultimate on my mac (Sequoia 15) and it just works 🤔

I'll take a look into this after my work today.

Hmm, interesting. Here's a screencast where I do a fresh install of the plugin: https://www.loom.com/share/9c1ad04813344c9e9a96078a340076d9?sid=c41d6ebc-e28f-42ee-be76-f953273ffb2c

Let me know if I can provide any logs from IDE. As previously mentioned there is no error or tracktrace I can share.

Thanks

In the settings of your IDE, do you have the menu point Window Layout Manager?

Yep :) image

Interestingly when I delete some of the layouts then click "Apply" or "OK" nothing happens. No error. Just no reponse. I can still close the settings window, but I can't remove any of the existing layouts.

Ah, this time an internal error was caught. Here is the stack trace stacktrace.txt

Although it might be a red herring as a result of trying to delete the layouts. I wasn't seeing any errors prior to that. You can probably make more sense of the stack trace than me though 😅

Just got another error, stack trace looks very similar: stacktrace-2.txt

This happens, because there is no such group. A thing I need to handle in a upcoming release.

Can you add the menupoints manually (Settings -> Appearance & Behavior -> Menus and Toolbards -> Add) image

Can you add the menupoints manually (Settings -> Appearance & Behavior -> Menus and Toolbards -> Add)

I just tried this but none of the plugin entries are available even in the "Add" list. I also tried installing fresh Idea 2024.2.4 and the menu doesn't show up there as well 😕

Same here, "Store Layout" and "Restore Layout" are not available menupoints image

Happy new year @michaelestermann , any motivation to look at this with fresh eyes? I tried the plugin on macOS Sequoia running latest version of IDEA and unfortunately the bug persists.

This problem also affects Rider (I'm currently using 2024.3.6). The plugin installed fine and was working perfectly for a while, then just stopped working (as in the menu options disappeared). I didn't update Rider, I think it just disappeared when I restarted Rider one time. As with the other reports, I can see Window Layout Manager in the Settings, but not as an available menu point.

Oddly, without doing anything other than upgrade Rider to 2025.1, I noticed the plugin is now working again! I'll keep an eye on it to see if it continues working.

Appeared for me in PhpStorm as well but after a single restart it's gone again 😢
