I got the suggestion that we should eventually allow weighting on synapses, both to show people what connections have been deemed useful (in the convergent phase of brainstorming) and to allow more algorithms!!
yes, this is absolutely key. i've thought quite a bit about it. what we also need to be able to do for this is to attach specific datatypes to both topics and synapses. so for instance, if there is a topic that is "Financial Contribution", we could associate a numeric datatype with it, say, unit: $ and amount: 100
then when we create a synapse, lets say to "Metamaps.cc" - we understand that a flow event happened between "Financial Contribution" and "Metamaps.cc" where 100 units were contributed, or distributed.
Another aspect of the weighting of synapses would be by adjusting the "polarity" of the synapses, we could start understanding "clustering".
Also, the navigation behaviors should eventually contribute to the weighting. so, if we see that people are navigating and tagging specific pathways over and over again, the weighting can be informed by those behaviors.
I hope this gives a little bit of context around the weighting. I'm glad you've brought this up as it is absolutely key to Metamaps.
