Autoplay behaviour is not synchronized

If a carousel has autoPlay and sync enabled hovering over the synchronized carousel as well as clicking on it does not stop autoplay. See this codepen for an example.

Is it possible to "synchronize" the autoPlay behaviour somehow? Or which events should we listen to to be able to disable autoplay of the "main" carousel?
