Rename presence in the Orbit model
Presence has now a different meaning compared to the one we had - see https://orbitmodel.com/love
(or maybe I did not understand what they meant by Presence before).
I believe Reach might be closer to the idea we're trying to convey when it comes to the metric.
This is the official definition of Reach according to the orbit model: Reach is a measure of a member's sphere of influence and their degree of visibility and connectedness.
Basically the mesure we're trying to track is the weight and width of our members influence, almost a mesure of their network. Thoughts?
I think the explanation of this issue is insufficient, and I should be clearer.
The problem here is that I can't find a good name for the metric we're measuring by running the calculus described in #327
As you can see, we're multiplying level by reach, reach defining the sphere of influence indeed.
I'm not sure anything in the Orbit models resembles what we want to do here. Should we call it differently?
It's a measure that is only useful to compare it to its previous value as it doesn't really represent anything. And I'd be ok to discuss its definition. The idea here is to measure the impact of each orbit (should we use impact? it possibly has a different meaning in the model). It aims at diminishing the value of community members with small love, reach or both.
Could "potential impact" work better maybe?
If we're multiplying Love by Reach, then we're measuring their level of potential influence over other people.
Based on my readings, I feel like "Impact" (as it is defined on Orbit) reflects more on concrete measurement the community has over the business whereas "potential impact" is the best-case scenario that could be reached.
For example, if Member 1 is very involved in Project x and has 10k followers, then the potential is of 10k. However, we're not sure all 10k followers will actually pick up on project x.
Impact is, if Member 1 advocated intensely for project X and the following month we get 150 more contributions than usual to project X, we might speculate that the impact of Member 1 is 150 = 150 contributions
I don't feel like saying Love x Reach = impact is accurate.
I hope I didn't make it more confusing, we might want to have a chat with someone from Orbit to see if maybe they already have a name for that measurement or if they simply use Impact as is.
Thanks for your comments @Luna-meili . I agree with what you said, indeed impact is not accurate enough.
But I really liked the idea of Potential. I think this could be the name of the whole thing, wdyt?
Happy to go with that! If we wish we can share our thoughts with our account manager during our meeting next Monday. : )
