uninstalled packages are still cached

I am checking out how the plugin works. It happened that there have been loads of projects piling up in the list of packages I am able to remove. When I check the list of packages able to be removed using project-plus:remove, then there are even packages listed that are gone long already a time ago. Is this intended behaviour? I think such orphans can be cleaned up. I was wondering if there is some file that caches these information, but I was not lucky enough to find one while fooling around.
