ctrl-x does not remove text

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. highlight text
2. press Ctrl-X
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect the text to be removed. But the text is still there. However, I can 
paste the text by pressing Ctrl-V. 
In the Edit menu, Ctrl-X does appear next to the Cut command.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I use Keepnote 0.7.7 on XQuartz 2.7.4. on Mac OS 10.8.4
