PinDroid crashes when I try to sign in

Open swinkels opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

After a system update of my Android device, PinDroid crashes when I try to sign in. When I open PinDroid and am asked to sign in to my account, I can enter my user name and password. When I press the Sign In button, I briefly see the "Authenticating" message box and then PinDroid crashes.

I tried to following workarounds but not of them worked:

  • moved PinDroid to the internal storage
  • cleared the data and the cache
  • reinstalled

If I try to sign in with an incorrect user name or password, I get the expected message that one of them is not valid and to try again. So that scenario is handled properly.

The device is a Moto Z Play running Android 7.1.1.

The exact same thing has happened to me today - I have tried exactly the same possible workarounds too, with the same results as those described by @swinkels

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy J5 now running Android 7.1.1 after an official upgrade from v6. The phone is not rooted and is pretty much as bought. The really strange thing is that the Android upgrade took place around 2 weeks ago and this is the first time I've seen the problem (plus I am a long-time user of the app, and this is the first time that I have had any problem).

Hopefully there is a possible fix or other perhaps there are other possible workarounds...

One other thing: I have also noticed that although it seemed to be working previously, it has not synchronized eith my pinboard account for the past 8 days. This may or may not be helpful, but I thought I'd mention it

I've been experiencing the same issue for a couple months. I assumed it was just my phone (which has been having other issues), but I see at least two other reviews mentioning this as well.

If there's any way help diagnose it, I'd be glad to do so.

IIRC, when it stopped working, it seemed to me to be a completely random occurrence. I had not just changed my password or anything. One day it was working, the next it wasn't, and any attempts to log in caused it to crash. I've tried clearing app data, uninstalling and reinstalling, and am considering doing a factory reset.

Today my Android device upgraded to 8.0.0. After the upgrade, I started the Pinboard app, signed in and lo and behold, no crash. It seems the app is fully functional again.
