Should standout frames be plain by default?
Currently, standout frames aren't automatically plain by default, so they get a frame number printed in the footline. Maybe they should be automatically plain.
A default value is obviously a matter of taste. If you have a convincing argument in favor of plain standout frames, please give it. Otherwise, we will refrain from breaking existing presentations.
They are already visually plain with the default color scheme. Making them automatically plain means this also applies when a different color scheme is applied.
I am torn: yes it is inconsistent because they look plain for the default color scheme but it might be (who knows?) that people rely on having the number being written with a modified color scheme. Are you in such a situation?
In my case I used a modified color scheme and had to delve into the theme to find out why the frame numbers were suddenly being printed. If they aren't going to be plain by default, this should be pointed out in the documentation (perhaps with an illustration of how it looks with a different color scheme).
Alright, let me think about this a bit more …
I second @beojan's suggestion about at least documenting that behaviour ☺
A workaround regarding the page number for now:
\setbeamertemplate{frame numbering}{
\ifbool{metropolis@standout}{}{
\insertframenumber
}
}
