kills with Australiums are logged to console as crits

Open Platina6978 opened this issue 5 years ago • 3 comments

Description

When looking at the console, any kills made with Australium weapons are being logged as crits even when they are not. While one's innocence can be very easily observed in-game, it may look suspicious and it is objectively incorrect.

I always figured it had something to do with Valve having just 'recolored' the crit icon in the killfeed but still left other code related to that intact, but I'm really just talking out of my arse here.

Do you know if the Critical Kills strange part is affected by this in any way when applied to an Australium?

Do you know if the Critical Kills strange part is affected by this in any way when applied to an Australium?

Not sure. Next weekend I can test if it affects a critical kills part applied to a strange cosmetic however, if that helps.

Edit: I've tested this with a critical kills part on a strange cosmetic (as I have no Australiums with this part on them) and it is not affected by this bug, the critical kills part seems to work as intended.

Additional note: whenever you destroy an engineer's building with an Australium, the Australium background does not show up in the killfeed. I figure that this is a result of my theory that Valve build the Australium killfeed background on top of the critical kill overlay (as you can't deal crits or mini-crits to buildings). If that holds true than this issue seems like an oversight or a bug.

This is very easy to replicate: equip any Australium weapon capable of dealing damage and destroy an engineer's building with it.
