Implications of different stringdist-metrics when using the seq_* family of integer sequence functions

All seq_* function documentation refers to the stringdist-metrics documentation for usage of the method parameter. The documentation of stringdist-metrics refers only to the metric definitions when used with character input, but it is unclear to me how e.g. the functions apply qgrams to integer sequences.
