Better challenge discovery
The search bar as it is currently is confusing for newbies, and the map by itself also does not give enough information for people to discover new challenges.
There should be a view that just lists the challenges, similar to the table we already have in the metrics display but less focused on metrics and more on discovery. It should to my mind have the following columns:
- Name
- Created by (links to OSM profile)
- Date created
- Percent complete
- Hotness (to be defined, some metric based on activity in the past days / weeks, number of users)
There should also be a way to narrow down by country.
I propose the front page be switchable between this list view and the map view. Default should be this list.
Needs discussion!!

All columns to be sortable.
To narrow down by country - add a column for region / country. It becomes hard to handle any scope: community - city- county - state - country - continent - world, unless this is just a string identifier.
Ideally for me, I'd like the home page to automatically zoom into my current location or the area where I have done work before. Above a certain zoom level, the challenges in view would be listed in a panel alongside the map (rather than as a completely different view).
From #303:
Based on Jochen's challenges I tried to find these using the Maproulette interface. I constantly fail. I get lost in other stuff and my only way back is to go to Jochen's site again and start from there.
Ideas to improve:
- Overview page showing all still active challenges and their authors
- Per user left side menu showing the last challenge one was active in (i.e. "My Latest")
- Bookmark a challenge
I case any of these features already exists I wasn't able to find it.
In the mean time while we figure out how to do this from within MapRoulette, if someone wants to create something separate using the MapRoulette API, let me know and I am happy to help.
