Explore public GTFS sources
For evaluating existing solutions / to test own development we require actual data sets.
From a very initial glance, the data format to go seems to be GTFS. This ticket is supposed to track progress on data source exploration.
For Parsing GTFS feeds, @daniel-j-h proposed to look at:
GTFS transit feed specification, examples, ecosystem: https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs/#overview-of-a-gtfs-feed https://github.com/google/transit/tree/master/gtfs-realtime
Publicly listed GTFS feeds: https://code.google.com/p/googletransitdatafeed/wiki/PublicFeeds
Good overview; you can find tools in OtherTools: https://code.google.com/p/googletransitdatafeed/w/list

Michael Mueller is the main data activist challenging institutions in Germany to open up their transit feeds. He's from Ulm that's the reason Berlin and Ulm have open GTFS feeds :) https://github.com/cmichi?tab=repositories
DB Bahn to GTFS feeds. Pseudo-official. Bahn supports this and has regular Open Bahn Hackathons. http://patrickbrosi.de/de/projects/dbgtfs/ https://github.com/patrickbr/db-api-to-gtfs https://github.com/fredlockheed/db-fv-gtfs (check Github Releases)
