Emulated system/software
Atari ST/STE
Incorrect behaviour
- I found that MAME's ST was difficult to boot into TOS. After repeated attempts, I found that I could only enter the system after inserting the TOS1.00 boot disk. When I insert TOS100.img in Cart, TOS cannot be started and a white screen appears.
- No matter what, I cannot start STE normally. Many software must be run on STE to have better results.
- Running ST in MAME, I found that many GEM-based programs cannot run. Taking JAM as an example, the program runs in the GEM environment, and all buttons are unresponsive (I mean play, pause, open playlist). If I click the x in the upper left corner to close the program, and then click the Joh button, TOS complains: Bad Function. Please see the screenshot below.
Expected behaviour
These programs can run normally on Hatari.
Steps to reproduce
mame st -flop tos100mod.st Then open drive A and double-click JAM.PRG.
Additional details
No response
The real ST, if started without a floppy in the drive, stays a couple of minutes on a white screen trying to read the non-existing floppy. Also, I'm not sure how usable the disk tos is, even in the real world (roughly nobody had it). I tend to use st_fr (because it's what I had), but if you want to use the US st try mame st -bios 1.
Also, to avoid the waiting time, create a 819200 file full of zeroes and give that to -flop. That should boot fast while staying neutral.

So can MAME run STE? I need STE's DMA function to record cooler SND format music.
No, mame currently can't run STE.
