Maliit PPA?

Open kq01526 opened this issue 9 years ago • 6 comments

Hi,

it looks like the Maliit PPA is no longer being updated:

https://launchpad.net/~maliit-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

Any chance you could revive it?

Regards

If someone is interested to create some PPA feel welcome. Not sure how that works nowadays.

Now that Maliit is a dependency of Plasma Mobile, isn't it just the Kubuntu team's responsibility to make sure the latest versions are packaged? I think Neon has the latest packages, no idea why they don't contribute to upstream distributions, though.

I've filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maliit-framework/+bug/1946538 (and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2012415 while I was at it, even though it's not related to Ubuntu)

There's some work happening to get maliit-framework 2.x and maliit-keyboard 2.x packaged in Debian upstream, so when they get into unstable there, they will need then need to be synced into the next Ubuntu release.

Haven't seen your bug, but added mine as duplicate to yours ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maliit-framework/+bug/1949631 ). In fact this should also be added to https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland_Showstoppers , because currently there is no virtual keyboard for touch devices included in the most popular Kubuntu Dsitro

(sad that the Kubuntu community worked around for 7 years for every new Kubuntu version to make packaging of the unmaintained 0.99 version possible when the current one was always here and sad that so much effort goes in here without it being broadly used :P).

You might want to switch to using the Neon stable image? It should have the latest releases of maliit included (although, I must disagree with how it is packaged currently, though that can be improved in time).

Thx will try that. BTW: seems there's also some progress on the main ubuntu bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maliit-framework/+bug/1946538
