There is also a possibility, If you can 'annotate' with comments your query, pgcat can extract that information and do the sharding selection.
I think you are right and there is no way of adding new certification authorities with current PgCat. Maybe we should provide a way of trusted CAs.
What this allow is using the primary when all replicas are down.
